For any water cooling type turbo bearing housing, there will be cooling water go in and out of the bearing housing, the place or area where the water passes in the turbo is called water jacket. Due to the function or application, after finishing the machining of bearing housing, or before assembly of bearing housing/chra, or after receiving a batch of bearing housing from a supplier, a pressure testing should be carried out.

How is a turbo bearing housing water jacket pressure testing is handled? Since it’s to test water jacket, do we have to use water as fluid medium to test? Not necessary. In fact, we use pneumatic pressure instrument. And from below steps, you will learn how the test is done.

● A fixture is made which fits the bearing housing water inlet or outlet connection face;

● One side of water connection face of the bearing housing will be put in the fixture;

● The other side of water connection face will be cover with a rubber sealing, and the instrument clamp goes down, and will grip the rubber sealing tightly, so that there will no leakage there;

● Press the button to start, so that the air goes in the bearing housing water jacket;

● A instrument readout of the air pressure will show the current pressure, if the pressure is stable or does not change, it means the bearing housing water jacket pressure is good / QC passed. Otherwise, it will be scrapped.
