A customer uses GTX5533R Gen2 98mm dual ceramic ball bearing turbo quick some, and due to the special application the turbo is used for, the stock compressor wheel got damaged almost every time when the turbo fails.

The compressor wheel is soft, not stronge enough for the application. As a result, we recommend to use titanium alloy compressor wheel.

Not only that, customer also wants more airflow. So we redesigned the wheel, from stock 13 0 blades to new 7 7 baldes, and we also increased the blade thickness to make the wheel more stronger (not only changing the material – from stock aluminium alloy to new titanium alloy).

The wheel inducer and shape are unchanged, so that it can still fit into the stock compressor housing (no need to machine the housing bore to fit).

To fasten or lock the compressor wheel with the turbine shaft, the stock turbo designs the lock nut/thread locking as part of compressor wheel(inside the wheel bore). To make it easy to unassembly the turbo for repair, we designed a seperate lock nut to fasten titanium alloy wheel (yes, it is the most commonly used way of locking a comp wheel).

And the turbine shaft length is extended for locking.

We had many meetings and email communications about this project, together with this customer. We’re delivering the products and excited to see the final result from this customer.
